Even Stryker does better in the tournament. Apart from having a short moment to shine at the very beginning, he is not seen fighting anyone in the tournament until his fight with Shao Kahn. Kintaro: Kintaro is a little better than Reiko and Li Mei as he does have more dialogue but he dies quickly and leaves pretty much no impact on the story. #Different mortal kombat realms movie#Even the 2021 live action movie got Reiko’s status as a general right. That title was given to Kitana for no good reason, nor did this already well-established beloved character need this feat to become interesting, given that she was already the Kahn’s daughter, his top assassin as well as the princess of Edenia. He’s been stripped of the one thing he had always been known for, that is, being the general of Shao Kahn’s armies. Reiko: Reiko could have really been anyone in this movie, any random soldier of Shao Kahn. #Different mortal kombat realms free#Are we to assume he forced her to do so? Perhaps he enslaved her village, promising to free it should she defeat the Earthrealm warriors in the tournament? She should have been given at least one line to explain her involvement in the tournament. The problem with this is that Li Mei has always been a hero, so we are given no explanation as to why she is suddenly fighting for the tyrant Shao Kahn. Li Mei: she appears for a total of 10 seconds and we are not given any information on her backstory, nor does she have any lines. The exploration of their motivations & personalities was mostly surface-level. The movie was way too ambitious with its runtime - it had far too many characters, the majority of which were not done justice. It was absolutely bonkers how such a massive plot point was all over before it even had a chance to unravel. The whole One Being thing at the end should not have been in this movie. I also though the first scene with the Lin Kuei and their grandmaster was done really well and conveyed the cult-like nature of the clan perfectly.īattle of the Realms is a very rushed movie. Scorpion and Kuai Liang get a really good interaction - the shoe is initially on the other foot as Scorpion finds himself as the target of vengeance but the two ninjas end up reconciling and working together. This was perhaps the best rendition of Shao Kahn since MK2/3/Shaolin Monks - badass, intelligent and threatening. This movie also really shows that Raiden has a big heart. Though Liu Kang was his usual stereotypical hero, his relationship with Raiden was one of the few things the movie managed to convey well. There were two fatalities that were extremely violent.ģ) Some characters were portrayed very well. They went further with it than in Scorpion’s Revenge. Shao Kahn does his MK9 fatality with a twist.Ģ) The gore/animation/effects were very good. The kamidogu from MKD: though the whole creation myth is important to the lore, it is rarely ever explored in the games or the movies.įatalities from the games: Shang Tsung does his MK9 fatality and then some more. Shinnok’s Spire: Shinnok’s throne room in the movie looked virtually identical to the one from MK Armageddon’s konquest mode - they could have just reused Quan Chi’s place from the first movie, so props for digging deeper. The Wu Shi Academy from the MKDA: not really an obscure arena, but nonetheless cool to see in a MK movie for the first time. The Temple of Elements from MK Mythologies: it even had little musical motifs that reminded me of the Earth Temple OST. I particularly appreciated nods to the more obscure lore, such as: Powered by Fireside We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to and affiliated sites.Warning: long post!
